The Huntley Police Department is hosting a Prescription Drug Take Back Day event Saturday where expired and unused medicine can be safely disposed of.
The event, which is being held in cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and other law enforcement agencies across the country, will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in front of the Huntley Police Department, 10911 Main St. in Huntley.
Anyone interested in disposing of medications can pull up to the front of the Municipal Complex and dispose of the medicine into containers monitored by a Huntley police officer, according to a news release. Liquids and syringes will not be accepted.
The collected medications are then sealed in containers and taken to collections sites for destruction by the DEA, according to the release.
The Huntley Police Department lobby drug drop-off program remains suspended. It closed in March as part of village shutdowns because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
